How to schedule and execute a CEO DAy for yourself.
Becoming a successful leader in your business takes hard work, long hours, and a lot of sweat equity. But that doesn't mean that we have to be in hustle mode 24/7. It’s extremely important to remove ourselves from the day to day chaos on a regular basis by carving out some non-negotiable time to reflect and refocus on the direction of our business and this is where a CEO day comes into play.
A CEO Day is an intentional time that you take off the daily grid (no clients, no juggling team members or the day to day operations) to focus on achieving your high level business goals. Depending on where you are in your business journey this could happen once a week, biweekly or even once a month.
Here’s how to run your CEO Day:
Set the Scene:
We’ve all had to slam on the brakes when driving and your head whips back and hits the head rest. Moving into a CEO day after working full speed can feel a little like that. The change in speed can be an adjustment. So here’s how we recommend planning and running your CEO Day:
Mark the Calendar
Treat your CEO Day as you would a client meeting. If you wouldn’t cancel or reschedule on a client, you shouldn’t cancel on yourself.
Change the Energy
Getting you out of your usual space or energy will get you in a more creative mood. That could be working from somewhere different or starting your day in a different way ie: Trying a new workout, going for a walk without headphones or having an office dance party to your favorite jams before sitting down to work. It might sound a little out there, but it works!
Plan an agenda
All successful strategy sessions begin with an agenda. If using task management tool, we recommend dropping these tasks in a list or project to work from during your CEO Day. Here are some samples of what you can work on during your time:
Reflect & Dream: Use this time to make plans for business growth.
Review Monthly Metrics ie: financials, client metrics google & social analytics. Review your wins & things that didn’t go well. Also what tasks you performed for clients & if any tweaks need to be made on pricing or time management.
Send out client invoices (but girl, you should have this automated!). Or Hint, use this time to build out some system automations for yourself.
Review Client Feedback, Team Performance or plan new hires. Based on client feedback & team evaluations you can review if the tasks & deliverables everyone is performing is moving your business in the right direction.
Self Development - a CEO Day is a great time to plan some personal or professional development and action out your learnings.
Plan new launches or offers - Based on your quarterly and annual goals, plan out your next launch or offer to take into your next marketing & content day.
Organize:
Declutter your inbox, desktop, photo albums, etc.
Tidy up your project or task management tool
Turn off Notifications
When the day begins, you are unavailable. Radio silence. Put your phone in airplane mode (bonus points if you put it in another room because that muscle memory to opening it up is STRONG). The avg person touches their phone 2,617 a day.
Close your email, slack, and any other notification driven tools you are using.
Wrap Your Day
Now it’s time to take action. The next step is to plan out your upcoming week or month at a task level in line with your findings and takeaways from your CEO day.
Set up any recurring tasks or meetings that need to take place.
Map out everything Task-by-task in your Project or Task management tool with due dates.
